About this service

The Kevin White Unit offers detoxification programmes for opiate dependent adults who are unable to detoxify within the community or who have been unsuccessful trying to do so. Drug detoxification and stabilisation services are delivered within a recovery framework and detoxification is supported by group work, psychosocial interventions, relapse prevention and referral to other support agencies.

The early part of a client’s admission usually involves assisted-withdrawal from various different substances, or stabilisation on substitute medication e.g. methadone. As soon as the client is able, the psychological and social (such as group work) components of treatment are introduced.
