20th February 2014: We’re talking cocaine…not counting our Facebook friends in case you were wondering!

Charlie and Percy are actually some of the names given to cocaine. As are white, wash, toot, stones, snow, rocks, pebbles, freebase, crack, coke and chang. It’s enough to make our brains ache.

What’s the deal with cocaine?
Cocaine is a drug known as a stimulant as it temporarily speeds up the way your mind and body work, making you feel more confident and wide awake. However, some people can get arrogant and aggressive and do things they wouldn’t normally do.

Cocaine can be very dangerous and some users have died from overdoses. Over time, snorting cocaine will seriously damage the cartilage in your nose that separates the nostrils. Some heavy users end up with just one really big nostril and an odd looking nose.

What should I do if I’m offered cocaine?
Take the time now to consider what you think about cocaine or any other drug for that matter. Knowing where you stand on drugs makes it easier to stay true to yourself.

Most young people decide not to take drugs and if you’re one of them, simply say ‘no thanks’ clearly and firmly and don’t make a big deal about it. True friends will respect your decision not to take drugs.
